Bio

Janine is pursuing a M.S. in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. Her research focuses on Ice Sublimation for Cubesat Heat REjection Amid Microgravity (I-SCHREAM). Janine is interested in modeling and demonstrating the use of sublimation phase change within a porous medium to regulate the rate of sublimation heat rejection. Development and miniaturization of this technology will enable more powerful avionics to be flown on CubeSat missions. Janine is also the lab manager, which enables her to organize lab-wide activities, welcome new members, and make connections to build a greater sense of lab community.

She is a NASA Pathways intern and has spent time at Goddard Space Flight Center, supporting thermal modeling and thermal vacuum testing for the Roman Space Telescope, as well as at Johnson Space Center, supporting Gateway and spacesuit thermal systems development.

Janine previously interned at Johnson Space Center's Neutral Buoyancy Lab (NBL), during which she designed a spacesuit Helmet-Mounted Display for astronauts to use during training in the NBL. She had the opportunity to scuba dive in the NBL when her project was being tested! During her undergraduate years, Janine was a co-op at NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab in the cable harness engineering group working on the Europa Clipper spacecraft. She also interned at The Aerospace Corporation for two summers. Janine was a member of UC Davis' Eclipse Rocketry Team where she helped launch high powered model rockets and payloads for the NASA University Student Launch Initiative.

In her free time, she enjoys flying, hiking/camping, SCUBA diving, eating dessert (see: research acronym), and she is learning how to rock climb and weight lift.
